Islam enters into Indian continent in 700 AD.. it is a mono theistic faith….it believes that non muslims are infidels….accept or die…. Hindus would not convert to islam because of the caste system.. the caste system is an obstacle to conversion…people do not abandon that social structure….converting hindues is very difficult…the Buddhist faith on the other side rejects the caste system… which if you are a muslim its cool since they are more open to conversion The Buddhist were come under persecution by muslims to convert to there religion. Buddhism is driven out of India…however Hinduism remains…since they cannot be forced to convert…they are allowed to practice there religion…but Buddhism is stayed out.. This modern period lasted from 700 to 1400 AD Before 700- Hinduism and Brahminism After 700- Islam enters, hindu are difficult to convert, so they are allowed to remain over there. The caste system meanwhile becomes more intrenched….it takes on a life of its own… within each one of the 5 major castes sub castes starts to develop.. Artisans…who had a caste of there owns created a sub caste having its own set of rules based on the specific vocation… Its IMP Because1 It shows the importance of social strata/caste system in INDIA. If you break the rules of your class, you go to a lower caste…if you do not follow the rules of Artisans caste AND sub artisan caste… 3000 sub castes were developed.. Meanwhile in Southeast Asia…burma develops its own civilizations which are all influenced by Indian civilizations…so Hinduism and Buddhism spreads….in cambodia the largest hindu temple exists.. Indians went to these areas through trade….Wide variety of trade goods that Indian and European wants existed in that region…coffe tea cinnamon….peppper So it is through trade that the Indian culture spreads through SE ASIA and the eg are CAMBODIA which is a major faith of Hindu Faith....
