Communication 263—Spring 2009 Linda Van Buskirk  Assignment:  Short Report:  Government briefing memo.  (Collaborative plan; individual  final documents). Part 1 , Collaborative  Planning memo  for briefing memorandum, with  full  description of sender, receiver, and planning situation, plus the  documented   outline,  due March 23.   Part 2 , Individual briefing memo (double-spaced for grading, please);  drafts  due for in-class editing on March 27.  Final copy due March 30. The assignment:  A briefing to the head of your government organization will be presented  in the form of a memo; its objective is to bring a busy executive up to speed on the issues  facing her or him.   See Handbook, pp. 346-350.  The notes on investigative reports (p. 309)  and memos will be helpful, though they are not directly pointed at briefings.  By searching a  bit on line, you will be able to find examples of government briefings. A briefing must summarize main points of a complicated issue accurately and concisely.  Correct and careful interpretation of source documents is absolutely essential.  For this assignment, you will search for newspaper and on-line articles that explore the activities  of a not-for-profit entity or
