La. 1974) Facts The Britains’ home was completely consumed by a fire which was ignited by a defective Sears’ heater. Both Mildred Britain and her infant daughter, Helen Britain, were severely burned. Procedural History At trial, a verdict was returned in favor of Helen Britain in the amount of $2 million. Issue Whether the damages awarded to Helen Britain were excessive. Judgement The defendants’ motions for a remittitur are denied.
