1947- The Hermance- A German Family which are old Nazi supporters living in an era of denazification by the Soviets and the other western powers. After the Nazi Fall in May 1945, the city of Berlin laid in ruins. Many of its major structures destroyed and in ruble from the allied bombings. Western Germany was occupied by the Americans, British and French allies. Eastern Germany was ruled over by the Soviets. Both parties were determined to denazify the people of Germany and impose their differing beliefs on each side. The Hermance is a German family which are old Nazi supporters living in Unter den Linden. Their home was damaged by the war and the family had to relocate to a nearby shelter when the Soviets arrived. Adalbert was a member of Hitler’s SS and had abandoned his job after Nazi fall. He had told his parents, Benno and Charlotte, to leave their home before the Soviets arrived. It was too late and the soviets had told Benno and his kids to stay at a nearby shelter, waiting for the Soviet’s denazification plan. Adalbert- Recollection of Soviet Invasion I have served Hitler’s SS from 1935 until our defeat at the Battle of Berlin. I have seen us win at the Battle of France, have seen the concentration camps, and have seen my fellow army men die in the end of our nationalistic goals. The western powers have bombed us out and the Soviets are approaching from the East. It then became known to the public that Hitler committed suicide and serving the army just does not make sense without a Fuhrer. Everything of Nazi Germany is being taken over by the Soviets and Western Powers. Their ideas are not welcomed here, whether communism or capitalism, these ideas will only further destruct Germany. Those Soviets are trouble to Germany and many of my family went to the west because they feel safer with the Western Allies. As the Red Army took over eastern Germany, I, along with some my family, were forced out from our home in Unter den Linden. The street that used to be my home laid in rubles when we left… Mac- Berlin University The University reopened about a year ago. Today it is torn by the communist and capitalist ideas that had torn our country. The faculty and students either believes in the
