The Bacchae: study questions Who are Dionysus’ parents? Zeus and Semele What is the story of Dionysus’ birth? Dionysus’ mother (Semele) was a mortal, while her father (Zeus) was immortal and the king of all gods. Zeus’ wife at the time, Hera, found out about the affair and was very jealous. Because of this, she put doubtful thoughts in Semele’s head, which caused Semele to persistently ask Zeus to reveal himself to prove that the baby was theirs. He did so, and appeared with lightening. Because she was a mortal, she could not survive the epiphany and was scorched by the flames. Who are Pentheus’ parents? Agave and Echion Who is the founder of Thebes? The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
