Land developing company is trying to buy the land because there is granite in it. o Main character: Virginia o What problems are they facing? Drought; no agriculture They are poor Development company loss of land What do they do to try to fight it? o Graham teaches the people about the issues o Graham gets put in jail because they thought he was trying to start a riot. They didn’t want someone to resist the development company Virginia feels hopeless and wants to leave Baby was born while Graham was in jail o Flashback scenes When Virginia first meets Graham Snapshots of what Virginia was doing for a living Virginia gets the money to post bail Virginia confronts the reverend and realizes how dedicated she is to the fight o Examples of Sociological Competence Page 22 She admired that even though Jake had lost all his land, he is still happy and moves on with his life. She realizes her personal problems and troubles are the same as the community’s.
