Instructor: Müjde Şener Student: Ferhat Abdullahoğlu Use of nuclear power is one of the most discussed issues up to today, because using nuclear power has both useful and dangerous sides. Developing countries, such as Turkey and Iraq, are thinking about using the nuclear reactors as energy suppliers. But nuclear power is considered to be a risk for the future of humanity. When its good and bad sides are thought, however, nuclear power may not be a threat for the future of humanity. Using nuclear power may become dangerous according to the risk of an explosion. The accident in Chernobyl is a proper example of what an explosion in a nuclear reactor is capable of. The accident had both acute and long term exposure. At the time of the explosion, 134 power plant workers had faced high dose of radiation and died after 3 months. Moreover, those of who involved in clean up operations died because of the diseases such as lung cancer and leukemia. In addition to this, nuclear explosion had other long term effects. For instance,
