Essay I I I) . What is the world (the universe) ultimately made up of? Only material things? But then why do we think that we have "minds"? Are there only mental things, such as minds and ideas? But then how can we explain what seems to be the existence of material objects? Or is there a combination of both material and mental things? But then how can things as different as mind and matter interact (if in fact they do interact). These questions (about mind and matter) are one part of metaphysics , the philosophers' study of, and speculation about, what is real and what exists. Write an essay about this. Pick three or four philosophers. Outline the views of each one, and do some comparing and contrasting of those views, from one philosopher to another. All of the following philosophers had something to say on this topic (but you don't have to limit yourself to these authors or to these works.)
