Donovan Miske Team Ramrod 1/12/09 Lab 1: Orientation and Macroscopic Variation (Section #1) The purpose of this lab is to observe variation between biological species with the naked eye so that we can conceive later the wide scale of variation throughout smaller and smaller lenses. By noticing how things vary on the outside one can most likely gain a better understanding on how things on the inside can affect how they appear externally. For instance a virus affecting a person on the inside could change visible signs on the skin of the person being observed. Understanding variation is a fundamental concept involved with all biological studies. Throughout this experiment I propose a few questions about a particular variation, as well as a method for determining an answer to one of them, and then I reflect on my method for measuring variation. Observing and Measuring 1. a) attached b) Attached 2. Question about Variation a. Does the size of these weeds correlate to their age? b.
