Character analysis for Tante Lou, Miss Emma, Edna, and Sam Guidry Tante Lou - Aunt of Grant who is constantly wanting him to stay in town and become the man she knows he will - She is an independent lady who is a prominent figure in their community and very religious. “ Until eleven o’clock there was nothing I could do but listen to her singing her ‘Termination song. Determination Sunday was…when members of the church would stand and sing their favorite hymns and tell the congregation where they were determined to spend eternity” (97) - Has a very close relationship with a lot of people in the community but especially Miss Emma. “My aunt saw that she was going to cry, and she stood up and put her arm around her shoulders. “ ‘ Em-ma, she said.
