Exploitation 19 th centEngland:saw 7-13yr childlaborfactories. Ppl w/moneyin factory took advantage- squeezework outof ppl w/out  faircompensation.  Surplus value : Owner of land have surplusvalue. Value more than theycan consume. When society was simple no1had surplus  values. Evrybody was equally poor. Then we started iron equipment,plow,then some ppl got more than theycan consume.  Social conflict  believed  struggle n strife was at core of society and source of all social change  Means of production:   Bourgeoisie  (haves-owners/rulers) vs.  Proletariat  (have nots- indust workers): asserted that econ.inequality results in class struggles between them.  Economic determinism : idea that all change,  social conditions, society itself based on economic factors. Communism :  eventual goal where evry1 has equal power and equal access to resource.  Prob: start to not work hard and slack off- society like Soviet will fall. Ppl start cultivate their owncrops.  Revolution  by class consciousness, false  consciousness of middle class pple. MidClass =factorof failure in social revolution: Didn’t work bc mid class ppl were happy with way it was.  Emile  Durkheim studied nothing but society n sociology.
