LIS 1001 Section 9 Assignment Name: Janie Ramírez Use the Internet to find two credible sources on Global Warming. Cite the websites. 1. United States Environmental Protection Agency. http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/index.html. April 21, 2008. 2. NASA: Goddard Institute for Space Studies . http://www.giss.nasa.gov/. April 21, 2008. Describe how you found the sites (Do NOT tell me you typed global warming into Google or any other search engine and picked two likely suspects. Look for good resources and tell me how you found them in detail.) First I went to www.lib.berkeley.edu/TeachingLib/Guides/Internet/Evaluate.html . On this site about evaluating sites, they have links to sites that help with legitimate web searching. I clicked on Librarians' Index to the Internet [UC Berkeley] . In their search box I typed Global Warming. I scrolled through the results for websites with .gov. Then tell me why they are credible. 1. http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/index.html Currency: not sure when the site was established last update was January 10, 2008 Coverage: The EPA Climate Change Web site has four main sections on climate change issues and another section on "What You Can Do" to reduce your contribution. the information is pretty extensive the site gives you a set of climate change related links Accuracy: I think the information is correct, it is from the government, but then again it’s a controversial issue it matches similar sources data Authority: various scientific government agencies are responsible for the content of the site Objectivity: they are not selling anything 2. http://www.giss.nasa.gov/ Currency: not sure when the site was established last update was March 3, 2008 Coverage: a broad study of global climate change
