Dementia Symptoms – five types of deficits in dementia- Memory deficit o Lapses in memory, but memory doesn’t return spontaneously and may not respond to reminders or other memory cues- Aphasia o Deterioration of language o Difficulty producing names of objects or people Refer to Cup as “thing for drinking” o May exhibit echolalia (repetition of what they hear) or palialia (repetition of sounds or words)- Apraxia o Impairment in the ability to execute common actions such as waving good-bye or putting on a shirt o Not caused by motor or sensory deficits, simply unable to carry out acitons requested of tem o “w/ APRaXia cant approximate how to put on clothes”- Agnosia o Failure to recognize objects or people- Loss of Executive Functions...
