Aids 1. The Aids Pandemic 1. Aids has existence for long period of time but the period we will focus on lasted for 25 years. 2. Different phrases of the aids movements were enacted before our inceptions, so we must think not only about the current era but also about the past. For example, there is less attention on the pandemic of aids. 3. Early years of the aids crisis were times of hysteria, times when people through kissing or toilet seats could transmits aids, not vaginal, blood or seamen. 2. The Perfect Movement 1. At the time of Mapplethorpe Death and three months before the show, Mapplethorpe died of AIDS, helping perpetuate people’s fears and anxieties in terms of Aids. 2. During the controvery, Senator Holms sought to block funding for Mapplethorpe and pass legislation banning all safe sex teaching including the representation of homosexual activity. 3. Holms called Mapplethorpe a sickness and homosexuality a sickness because the mass death of gay aids victim became literal representation of the ideologies and misconceptions Holms sought to impose on the public. 4. With rhetorical appeals and with the aids epidemic, Holms generated an image of the homosexual sickness. 1

The Pink triangle serves as brand that’s arresting or interesting but the meaning does become apparent until closer inspectation. 1. The Message critique several organizations Ronald Regan (who did not mentions the aids epidemic until his friend died), The Vatican (who policies was condom use was immoral). 2. A Pink Triangle floats against a black background, referencing the Nazi concentration camps when homosexual wore triangles, except their flipped the other way, so the pink triangle represents oppression of homosexuals. 1. Killing of homosexuals occurred mostly in men because the thought of lesbian unimaginable. 2. The flipping of the triangle is symbolic reference to “turning the oppression around”, the interest in reversing a change in history. 3.
