Your chromatogram should fit inside a plastic chromatography tank [a clear plastic cup. tumod upside down) without touching the walls if you need to. cut lhe chromatography paper shorter and restaple the cylinder to make it fit. Smal space (do not overlap} £2th penal Orig?! line with samples Staple Deliver 3 pipeta of the mobile phase solvent. 2:1 1-propanolt'water. lo a solvent n'ay (half ofa petri dish]. Place the paper cylinder into the solvent as evenly and centrally as possible. Place the tank over the cylinder. Try to keep the paper cylinder from flattening against the inside wall of the tank. Watch the mobile phase for a few moments so that you can see the mobile phase front as it climbs up the paper by capillary action. The chromatography will take about 20-25 minutes. From time to time check the progress. of the float You will want to stop the chromatography when. the solvent front reaches r415 cm from the top ofthe paper.
