Unformatted text preview: Chapter 2 Spectroscopy Quiz Outline .‘_ Your quiz will NOTcover all of the information below, but it will cover some subset of the inflammation given below. Define spectroscopy. Be able to determine the equation of a line from two data points. transition is associated with each type of radiation (i. e., the correlation between the columns at the two extremes of Table 2.1). Also, you should know roughly the correlation between the extreme columns and the RELATIVE energies, frequencies, and wavelengths. (For example, could you tell me if visible radiation is of higher/lower energy/frequency/wavelength than microwave radiation?) Be able to describe what is meant by the term "white light", and the wavelength range (in 1111:) that white light covers. Also be able to list the colors of the spectrum fi'om the highest to the lowest frequency. Be able to describe in a few sentences what a "tran smission diffraction grating" is. (A figure might help, but it is not a must). Be able to label the components of a discharge tube set-up (Figure 2.9).
