Artificial Neural Networks. Fuzzy Logic. Each topic is organized as follows: Brief theoretical background. Simple numerical examples. Engineering application. References There is a text, written especially for these classes, which can be downloaded from the course webpage (CEE 593 webpage). In the end of the text there is a list of references. All the slides are ( or will be ) also available at the same site. For further information: donato@ieee.org Why should we study these techniques? Artificial Intelligence has been widely applied to model and to solve a large variety of engineering and management problems. Sometimes, AI techniques are more efficient than conventional techniques. Other times, AI techniques are the only tools that completely fill all the requirements of the problem. A lot of times, AI techniques are applied to problems that have already been efficiently solved by optimization and simulation tools. They are applied just because they are fashionable !!! Examples (1) Genetic Algorithms : Structural design of buildings. c Water supplying network design. c Model calibration. c Travel salesman problem. c Scheduling of machines in a factory. c Knapsack problem. c Combinatory problems in general. Examples (2) Artificial Neural Networks : Recognition of patterns in data. c Stock market analyses and forecasting. c Credit evaluation. c Diagnose of diseases ( medical images ). i Water inflow forecasting for water resource systems....
