Week 5 Concepts 1. Through the beliefs of John Locke, we have established an ideology known as Liberalism. This states that we are all rational, reasoned beings that are able to solve problems logically, without getting rash and violent. This ideology is important because it is one way humans are separate from animals. With our rationality, we have composed Constitutions that explain our need for freedom and happiness. Through the different forms of liberalism, we can achieve these freedoms in different ways. Classical Liberalism allows for the protection of our properties. Populism creates a democracy. Progressivism puts limits on corporate powers. Contemporary Liberalism allows for the solutions to be in the government’s hands in the form of welfare programs. Neoliberalism creates wealth instead of redistributing it. I believe liberalism is good for our government because it takes some of the pressure off of us citizens to handle things that may be out of our hands or too big for us to deal with. 2.
