1. Issue Number: 13 2. Issue Title: Does the Patriot Act Abridge Essential Freedom? 3. List the major points of the YES Argument:  To start out, the major points of the YES argument are that the Patriot Act  abridges essential freedom because it gives the terrorists what they want,  which is  to paralyze with fear and make the government more in power and controlling.  It  scares Americans to see what is going on with the terrorists.  Also, that the Patriot  Act takes away some personal rights of people. 4. List the major points on the NO Argument:  The first point of the NO argument is that the Patriot Act does not abridge  essential freedom because it is a precaution that the country has the right to do if it  deems it necessary.  There is also the point that the Fourth Amendment does not  say that the government doesn’t have the right to do these things unknowingly if  they have probably cause. 5. Briefly summarize in your own words what you understand to be the author’s thesis  in the YES argument:  I understand the author’s thesis in the YES argument to be that giving this  particular thing away to the government would take our freedom, lessen our human
