Anorexia Nervosa Anorexia = “loss of appetite” Anorexia Nervosa (AN) = absolute control over hunger NEED TO memorize DSM criteria Body weight – lighter than they should be; less than 85 % of what is expected  what is “normal” Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat   even though underweight Disturbance in BI   negative BI In post-menarchal females – absence of at least three consecutive period cycles  (amenorrhea) SPECIFIC TYPE/SUB-TYPE – diagnosis of what is occurring AT THAT TIME o Restricting type ( AN-R) – has not engaged in binge-eating or purging  behavior (IE laxative type products) o Binge-eating/purging type (AN-BP) – regularly engaging in binging or  purging behavior PARTIAL AN (diagnosed under EDNOS) AN except regular menses o No amenorrhea AN except weight within normal range WARNING SIGNS
