Organization overview Nike is a very well known organization around the United States and the world. The Nike organization was first founded in 1964 and the organization was called Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS). It wasn’t until 1971 until the company formally began to call themselves Nike. It was not until December of 1980 that Nike began available to the public. Nike's Corporate Mission Statement: “To be the world's leading sports and fitness company” (Funding Universe, Paragraph 4).   The founders were two track and field runners from the University of Oregon. They came together to create what is now an eighteen and a half billion dollar organization. The founder of Nike was a man named Phil Knight. He also had a co-founder by the name of Bill Bowerman. Bill Bowerman was a legendary Olympic track and field coach. Their vision was to develop products that helped athletics of every level of ability reach their full potential. Every sense the company became available to the public, the rest was history. Nike then employed over thirty
