Ecology Spring 2008 1 ECOLOGY PCB 3034C & 4044C Terrestrial Lab II: Forest structure data analysis For Terrestrial labs I and III, you are going to write a single lab report following the format of an actual scientific journal article (see additional handouts posted online: General guidelines, Writing Hints, Examples, Making figures and tables and Lab report checklist ). Today you will begin progress towards writing the report by summarizing and analyzing the forest structure data collected in Terrestrial lab I. This will give you the opportunity to practice your Excel skills for summary statistics, graphs, and analyses, and provide you with the results for your lab report. Lab objectives: 1) To describe and compare the forest structure of two unique Florida ecosystems by quantifying patterns of tree size, density, and species diversity. 2) To apply your knowledge of Excel and statistical tests covered in the Statistics Manual (available online), last week’s Excel assignment, and lecture.
