Week 5 Topic Proposal and SummaryThis week’s goal is to begin collecting information and planning for the final Commentary essay by reading, thinking, and engaging with your topic. As you determine your topic, you’ll want to be sure it’s viable by understanding the perspectives within it and determining what unique angleyou can offer to the conversation. Under each prompt or question below, provide detailed information about your topic.1.What is your chosen topic, and how did you come across it? Why is it interesting to you? What do you personally hope to gain or accomplish by writing about this topic? Inthis section, define your topic and explain where you first heard about it (i.e. local newspaper, website, etc.). Reflect on how or why your background, motivations, needs, or interests inspired your curiosity about this topic, and consider how the topic relates to your overall goals for writing.The topic that I have chosen to write about is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder otherwise known as PTSD. PTSD is a mental health condition that's triggered by a traumatic event that either is experienced or witnessed. The way that I came across this topic is from my time and experience in the military. PTSD is an ongoing and really things within the military and is forever taking effect on service members. What I hope to accomplish and gain from my writing is to give people a better understanding and shed some light on PTSD. This is a topic that has been around for a very long time and is only recently being taken seriously by some, but it is truly not understood by everyone. 2.Provide a brief summary of the topic. Explain the current issues surrounding the topic and share at least two different positions on the topic. As this is a summary, this section should be written in your own words; however, you must first conduct research to complete this section. Find at least two sources that offer differing perspectives on this topic and summarize their points of view. In your summary, also explain who the author or publishing organization is and how he, she, or it relates to the topic. Although we will be learning more about APA style next week, use Chapter 28 in your textbook and our APA class tutorials to provide full references for both sources.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder has been around for many years and until the recent wars and conflicts never really got the attention that it deserves. Let’s compare how things where fromthe war in Vietnam to the current conflicts derived from the events of September 11th. When looking at the Vietnam War, the conditions of which battles took place were to the extreme. We had service members exposed to some of the worst conditions that we have ever seen for the time. The things that were experienced during the war that had a great effect on the service members there were limitless, some of those which crippled men once they returned home. These things included the jobs of those who were known as tunnel rats. They were the men that where sent into the tunnels dug by the North Vietnamese, they entered with only a flashlight, a knife, and a pistol due to the confined spaces. This meant that they were engaging the enemy at point blank range. This exposed these men to extreme violence and images that would stick with them forever. The Vietnam War was also a time were we really started experiencing the use of non-military personnel such as children and women to be used as suicide bombers. This in turn made it a possibility and reality that at some point while in Vietnam that you would take the life of a child or women in order to protect those that you were serving with. Many events that would
