Canon hospital telemedicine acquisitionCanon hospital is located approximately 100 miles and 150 miles from to major medical centers of excellence in Texas. The hospital does not have telemedicine services and is dependent on these centers of excellence to offer the service to the patients .patients are transferred to the excellent centers and there is little or no follow up on these patients in regard to treatment plans or services. In many cases patients and caregivers are relocated for step down and rehabilitative care to facilities outside the canon hospital area. This creates high level of dissatisfaction to patients and families and revenue loss for canon hospital and its associated rehabilitation facilities.Medical leaders are proposing for the provision of appropriate service for ICU patients and rehabilitative service for stock patients in canon hospital community. This will create satisfaction of our patients and their families.it will as well also address the problem of revenue loss from Canon hospital.The provision of these services require critical examination of the business and technical aspects of establishing of telemedicine program with one of the tertiary centers. The tertiary centers have certified specialists in critical care and stroke certified physician who can administer TPA and other urgent stoke treatment.
Regulatory concerns on use of telemedicine.Licensingof physician and other health care providers. Provision of telemedicine has made it possible for consultation to occur over a large distance. However licensed providers are limited or denied to provide the services in states they are licensed. This is caused by varying laws on use of telemedicine in different states. Some states burn the use of telemedicine while other permits its use depending on the policies implemented in those states. However the increase in the speed of internet, telehealth services ought to be allowed to citizens who are willing to access them. Proper policies should be set to govern the use of the service and harsh penalties given to those that breach the policies.Informed consent. Several states require that an informed consent be obtained from a patient prior to telehealth. This is opposed to Medicare that does not require obtaining of consent from patients. This is caused by concerns of health information security and that the patients understands what's going to take place. Unfortunately this policies misrepresent telehealth as a different form of service, rather than using it as a tool to improve and enhance treatment.
