The English Puritans The English puritan: Purified the protestant faith that’s why called Puritans. Their life expectancy was better. No ability to create cash crop because of geography. Rather had to work hard. Like to suffer and let people know about it.

They thought getting rich belongs to Chesapeake, so let them have it. (??? There were not oppose to ppl, each saw economic value.) Puritans value working hard, all part of glorification of god. Rely on family for farm labor, since they couldn’t afford slaves. Who r these English puritan? i. Puritan beliefs : no bishop, wanted perfect morality and to worship among themselves and other. They believed that the fear they had of becoming sterdy begger can be removed by working hard. Church of England was part of state, and king of England was head of church. The puritans were developed performer, the king they see as a pope. Not all puritan are pilgrim. Wanted to withdraw from church and England itself. King James thought that puritans opposing the church means opposing England. If he allow purism then they will bother him, so wanted to get rid of them too. So later on they were punished for showing or following puritism, so puritans escaped to new world.??? ( meaning which place??) But at the same time by not following the religion, the puritans wanted to remain English but had problem with the church. But in order to have their own right, their minister tells them that they will start their sail for new world. The puritans also had confidence over the minister. So the thought and hope giving by him about new world let their fear out. But they also felt bad about leaving England, felt hypocritical. NOTE: WHO was this leader???? John Winthrop, he addresses the concern of leaving England is hypocritical. They talk about god providence a lot, but it mean care but also mean control. Not to thank only when god provide but also to thank him when he provides hard time NOTE: IS there more about him? Who was he? ii. Puritan politics????? (What was the politics about)

b. The Great Migration the great migration: didn’t being until 1630, led by john Winthrop. In massachute, set up colony like Virginia and sent the rest back to England. The puritans were religious but also had economic motives. They feared they might be the next sturdy beggar, because of all the poor people. Crime increased along with taxes and also due to dry land it was hard for them to grow any kind of crops. Many thought, the migration was foolish, because they could have stayed within England and not badly suffer like they are now. NOTE: (But remember, most puritan did stay in England).
