Results and Discussion: The product was isolated by three extractions with ether from the aqueous reaction mixture. The product was a colorless liquid with a faint sweet smell. An IR spectrum of the product (liquid suspension) was obtained (see attached) and the refractive index was measured. Refractive Index Product: n 20/D = 1.450 (Literature 1.453 1 ). Theoretical and Percent Yield % Yield = Theoretical Yield = 5.00 g CyPentBr x 1 mole CyPentBr 149 g x 1 mole CyPentBr 1 mole CyPentOH x 1 mole CyPentOH 86 g Theoretical Yield = 2.88 g CyPentOH 2.01 g CyPentOH obtained 2.88 g CyPentOH expected x 100 = 69.6 % Conclusion: The measured refractive index is consistent with the identification of the product
