Keller Environmental Studies and Geological Sciences University of California, Santa Barbara January 2004 GOLETA BEACH: A VISION OF BEAUTY Goleta Beach County Park is a true jewel to the community as well as those who visit our beautiful shores. I envision Goleta Beach being restored to a true barrier beach fringed on the ocean side by a line of sand dunes stabilized with native vegetation including dune grasses and wildflowers. The dunes would provide a buffer protecting the park while adding an entirely new dimension to the beach environment. Wood pathways could be constructed across the dunes to the beach as has been done for a variety of coastal areas on both the east and West Coast. Imagine visiting Goleta Beach so restored. One would wander from the parkland through a zone of coastal dunes, much like the barrier beach may have appeared hundreds of years ago before the Goleta Salt Marsh was filled in.
