1 Goleta Beach erosion panel fails to agree on fix 7/19/05 ,Santa Barbara News -Press By THOMAS SCHULTZ NEWS-PRESS STAFF WRITER After 18 months, a deeply divided panel failed to agree Monday on how to solve the problem of chronic erosion at Goleta Beach County Park. Santa Barbara County officials had hoped that the "working group" of South Coast residents, elected officials, business representatives and scientists could agree on a way to stop waves from washing away sand and turf at the most popular of 23 parks the county owns and operates. Unity would have gone a long way in persuading local officials and later the state Coastal Commission to approve one or some combination of three proposals under consideration. Now, selling any plan could prove more difficult, though not impossible, officials said. "It's obvious there is more than one solution to this problem," 2nd District Supervisor Susan Rose said at the end of Monday's more than four-hour meeting held at the Santa Barbara Municipal Airport.
