The project details are to remodel nearby highway 61 and to build a new bridge just north of the old Wakota Bridge and then tear down the old bridge and build a new one in its place. Ultimately increasing bridge capacity from two lanes in each direction to five lanes in each direction in hopes to eliminate the traffic congestion. The project was started in 2002 and is not expected to be finished until sometime in 2010. In the 6 years that this project has been under way, it has encountered many problems from money to structure and design problems. The latest problem occurred on December 29 2006 when Lunda Construction was discharged from its contract to complete the eastbound section to the bridge dun to disagreements between Mn/DOT and Lunda concerning delays and cost. Mn/DOT then repackaged and put the project up for biding. On January 25 2008, a bid was accepted to finish
