Chris Kemp Topic Number 1 Thesis : In Tennessee Williams’ play, The Glass Menagerie , Tom is a pathetic character because the suffering and ban fortune that happens to him is not because of his own doing, but it is instead because of the inopportune situation in which he has been placed to live. Topic Sentence 1 : Tom and Laura’s father abandoned the Wingfield family to move to start a new life leaving Tom as the man as the household and the responsibility of taking care of Amanda and Laura financially. Topic Sentence 2 : Tom’s mother, Amanda Wingfield, is always nagging or irritating him about something instead of letting him live his life as his own man. Topic Sentence 3 : Because of the unfortunate stalemate that Tom has come to in his life
