Biology September-17- 08 History of Time Prokaryotes (3,800mya) Stromatolites - (One of the first species on this planet. They are prokaryotes and use photosynthesis) -Cyanobacteria - life evolved within 3.5 billion years ago Panspermia – (Seeds of life are actually from space. Life can live under very extreme conditions) - Deep sea vents belch out nutrient rich gasses, and they are teeming with life. Even with the extreme pressures and harsh conditions - Extremophiles – living things that survive in extreme conditions What you need for regular life: 1. Abiotic synthesis – we have to synthesize molecules in the absence of biology 2. Heritable information – when a good cell is produced, it is passed on to daughter cells
