Hitler and Nazism to 1933 Nazi: comes from Na tionalsozi alistische deutsche Arbeiterpartei [National Socialist German Worker’s Party] S.A. Sturmabteilung – literally, attack section, usually translated as Storm Troopers. Army of the Nazi Party. S.S. Schutzstaffel (Defense Formation) This became the elite guard of the Nazi regime. From mid-1934 it had displaced the S.A. in significance as an instrument of terror within Germany. By the end of the war a significant part of the regular fighting forces.
