Phobias Specific phobias are intense and persistent fears that apply to one very specific sort of object or situation. Social phobias (sometimes known as Social Anxiety Disorder) are persistent unrealistic fears, and avoidance, of social situations.

Behavioral Models – Dual Processes Classical Conditioning: Anxiety becomes classically conditioned to a stimulus. Operant Learning: Avoiding the stimulus is negatively reinforced through reduction of the anxiety. The anxiety and avoidance cycle in phobias involves both classical conditioning and operant learning.
