Danny Bauer R/C 2 Ms. McBride Spring 2008 SW #1 Advertising has a major influence on people if it is done correctly. It is just putting something down on a piece of paper or a billboard or on the TV and expecting people to like it. It takes research like many different things. It has to have something in which people can relate to and will appeal to. In Jib Fowles’ “Advertising’s Fifteen Basic Appeals” he explains the necessities in order to have people hooked on the product. The ad that I chose is for a new type of tequila made by Jose Cuervo. The ad itself has a very unique color scheme that draws your attention right away, black and blue which cause the scene to be very dark and mysterious. This setting is because this new type of tequila is the first time it has been available on the shelf. The ad explains that for 200 years “A handcrafted 100% agave silver tequila… reserved only for the family’s private enjoyment”.

Another is the need for prominence, people may begin to think that by drinking this they will be on the same level of prominence as those who were only able to drink it before. These are only a few of the affiliations with the basic appeals but there are a few others this ad can relate to. I feel this ad is very effective and if I were of age to try this drink I would be one of the new members of the Jose Cuervo family....
