Kennedy 1 Amanda Kennedy Professor Fullam ENGL 1020-900 The Crucial Aspects of Writing: Freewriting and Revision While reading the two essays, “Freewriting” by Peter Elbow and “The Maker’s Eye: Revising Your Own Manuscripts” by Donald Murray, it is obvious to recognize each author’s passion for the process of writing. These two authors discuss some of the steps that are involved in the writing process, as well as their own techniques, ideas, thoughts, and opinions that they have, use, and want to share with their audience. One specifically is mentioned numerous times in each essay, the process of revision, also known as editing. Both authors agree that editing is a crucial aspect of writing in general. However, editing should not be started until a draft, or at least a free-writing exercise, is completed. In Elbow's essay, his main argument is regarding how beneficial a ten minute free-writing exercise can be to the writer, as well as their finished product. As he goes into depth about the
