May 30, 2008 History Discussion 5 Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait The United States is concerned because they want oil Operation Desert Storm was a success Bush’s ratings go up (89%) The Country was happy with winning the War, but the poor economy hurt him, along with high unemployment, inflation, and inadequate jobs Bush’s ratings go down (29%) He inherited Reagan’s economic hangover with the economy Bush rides this wave and does not do much domestically Clinton moves to the right (political persuasion) He characterized himself as a “New Democrat” People were tired with current administration, so they were ready for change No one was pressing what Clinton’s change would be, but they listened because they
