Ignition Power = sparking imagination, igniting imagination “Once upon a time” Writing about Love Happy love, sad love, in-between People like love stories because people can relate or they want to relate Biedermeier happiness, Romantic tragedies Love stories we have read o Snow Queen, The Little Mermaid, The Sweethearts, The Butterfly, Ice Maiden, Inchelina, Traveling Companion o These stories have complicated plots, lots of problems, tension of love, ambiguous, less comfortable outcome The international language Danish word for love is “kaerlighed” or “elskov” “Amor” means love in latin, catalan, Romanian, etc Cupid is innocuous, shooting people with arrows = painful Biedermeier Idyll “Once upon a time” “Really nice and kind old poet” Cozy scene: potbelly stove, roasted apples, mulled wine Disrupted by Cupid! o Dissatisfaction by cupid’s arrow, negatively portrayed Poet gets angry when shot with arrow Warns people to stay away from Cupid LOVE WILL CAUSE TROUBLE = ANDERSEN’S MESSAGE NO ONE IS SAFE FROM CUPID! Beware! Love Conquers All (People)
