Political Science 205 Prof. Dennis L. Dresang CAMPAIGN STRATEGY EXERCISE Directions You are the campaign director for a conservative Republican who is about to announce his candidacy for a seat in the State Assembly. He is thirty-three years old and has been practicing law for the past three years in Faketown. The major opponent in the primary is sure to be a farmer who, like others in the district, has been alarmed at the bleak prospects for family farms. Use the information provided below and develop a campaign strategy. Apply the lessons and principles presented in chapters 6 & 8 of the Dresang and Gosling text, and relevant class discussions. Present your strategy by answering the following questions (no need to put into an essay—answer each question separately): 1. What is the major message your candidate wants to convey about himself and the issues? 2. To whom, if any particular group, will this message be aimed? 3.
