Ryan McCreery ECE Lecture #5 September 20, 2007 Private Pleasures and Public Pearls The fifth energy seminar lecture was given by Richard E. Schuler. During this seminar, Mr. Schuler explained a different part of the energy scheme. Instead of just talking about new energy sources and efficiency means, this lecture focused on the “human side” of the energy issue. Then, Mr. Schuler dove into the topic of energy consumption by society. Society’s demand for energy makes it a valuable and almost essential tool for daily life. Therefore, there is a huge demand from society for energy. This is creating a dilemma with the supply-and-demand of usable energy. It very clear that society is consuming energy at too great of a rate. It is impossible to produce enough energy resources to supply consumers, unless the cost for energy increases or we find new, more efficient ways of managing energy.
