Overview of Physics 0175 (Vittorio Paolone) This course is part of your “Integrated Curriculum” (calculus, chemistry, engineering, physics) Introductory Physics compressed into two terms (four credits each) 4 contact hours per week: ~3 hours of lectures (104 Thaw Hall) 1 hour recitation (104 Thaw Hall) The recitations are taught by my Teaching Assistant Zixu Zhang

My teaching approach: I expect you to read the assigned text prior to lecture Lectures will not recite information from the textbook; instead, during lectures I will point out and elaborate on the important concepts, illustrate them with demonstrations, and involve the class in active learning exercises with the help of the electronic Student Response System. I hope to wean you from the “plug and chug” method of working problems; instead, by working out illustrative examples in class I hope to train you to use a methodical and analytical approach
