NATS February 17 Announcements: - Midterm exam will be February 26 - Office hours: Thursday 1:30-3:30 Nature of Science Review: - Which of these statements would you say accurately describes science? o A hypothesis must be consistent with available data o Accepted explanations may turn out to be false o If something feels true, then it is true o The simplest explanation is always the best one Still needs to be consistent with the data Not the only criteria - The Seasons o How long does it take each of these points to orbit the Earth: 24 hours o Rank the time spent in daylight each day from lowest to highest Lowest: North is tilted away from the equator meaning winter When you are tilted toward the Sun, you have a longer day o If you left a glass of water outside at each location for 1 hour around midday, where would it be hottest? Same as the ones that are longest in the daylight and closest to the Sun o Is the Earth closer to the Sun for the left or right column? Summer in the North is when the Earth is farthest from the Sun
