Nutri Sci Notes 9/29 15:00 Protein is not on exam… things covered this week will not be on  exam Excess protein- used for energy burn it and stored as fat is excess. Remove  nitrogen and that is put to the form or urea and turned into urine and excreated.  Diuretic-stimulates urination. Drink a lot of water in a diet is an example of this.  Bone loss-from diets. Minerals can be lost with urine from diuretics, calcium loss  as well. Increases risk of getting kidney stones. This is all from high protein diets Extra protein with out exercise = more fat not muscle. Its important to eat protein  after work out but timing is more important than quantity. Excessive amounts is  bad. Protein sources- Meat and beans groups o Meat, fish, poultry (can be very high in fat), eggs, legumes (beans), nuts  (also high in fat, can help decrease chance of heart disease)
