Nutri Sci Notes 10/10 14:50 Defining obesiety High and weight BMI Body Mass Index BMI = weight (kg)/height^2 (m) Body composition Total body mass= lean mass (teeth, bones ect.) + fat mass % body fat NORMS o Men-15-20% o Women- 20-25% Low-body fat o Amenhorrhea o Bone mineral loss Measurement Skin fold calipers Body impedance analysis Underwater weight ( someone with a lot of body fat would float more and  skinnier people would sink ) very accurate, not very easy Bod pod (very similar to the underwater one, but in the air… very sensitive) Fat depots Abdominal (visceral,… not wthe stuff you pinch on your stomach) Subcotoneous Intramuscular Bady-fat distributions “apple” shape- fat carried as visceral fat (very skinny all over with a  big belly)  higher risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes “pear” shape- fat carried more on hips and thighs
