Psych 364 Test #1 A. How are psychological theories helpful in the study of human development, what questions or approaches does it attempt to emphasize? Theories provide format or approach to developmental behaviors. They clarify concepts and explain delays. Behaviorism (Learning Theory) Behavior change is based on association. Classical Conditioning: "Pavlov's Dogs" Based on primary senses; "smell", "taste" Operant Conditioning: B.F. Skinner Based on reinforcers, rewards which can be present or absent for behaviors to occur. B. How is the study and research in human development helpful, what questions or approaches does it attempt to emphasize? C. What are developmental norms or standards and how are they determined? Developmental Norms: Normal Stages of development that are observed and measured for study and research purposes. Specific areas include; age/grade norms, physiological and cognitive norms. Ex: Child crawling @ 7 months is a developmental norm. Norms are determined by observing and measuring info then collaborating it and
