February 12 Eukaryotic cells contain organelles = little organs. specialized membrane-bound compartments within cells nucleus = contains most of the cell's genetic information. bound by the nuclear envelope (made of two membranes; expect to find 4 phospholipids) houses nucleolus = region in nucleus where ribosomal parts are manufactured endoplasmic reticulum Golgi apparatus lysosomes mitochondria Where else in a eukaryotic cell will you find DNA? a. endoplasmic reticulum b. Golgi apparatus c. lysosomes d. mitochondria e. cytoskeleton Endoplasmic Reticulum = network of membranous tubes throughout cytoplasm two regions: rough ER = studded with ribosomes (bound) protein synthesis and transport membrane proteins = proteins that live in membranes secreted proteins = will be secreted/released from the cell at the plasma membrane proteins that function inside of lysosomes membrane synthesis smooth ER = lacks ribosomes (so it doesn't make any proteins)
