Understand the concept of electronegativity and know the definition of electron affinity and ionization potential and how to use the values to calculate ΔH for a reaction. 5. Understand Ionization constants for weak acids and bases in water. Know how to calculate pKa from Ka and vice versa. Know how to calculate pOH from [OH-] and vice versa. 6. Understand how CO 2 interacts with water to form HCO 3 - and CO 3 2- (carbonic acid) and the same for sulfuric acid (page 640). 7. Know the common ion effect and its implications. Omit the material on pages 647 to 667. Chapter 16 1. Understand the solubility constant and how to use it. 2.
