BME 301, Spring 2009 Problem Set #4 Due: Tue. March 10, 2009 Please cite any sources of information. Make sure to only use credible, primary sources of information. Be thorough. 1. Skolnik lists perinatal conditions as a leading cause of death (e.g., Table 2-5, Table 11-5 and Figure 10-2). (a) Write a concise definition of perinatal conditions that would be suitable for inclusion in a glossary. (b) List and describe two examples of perinatal conditions. 2. Millenium Development Goal #4 is to reduce child mortality. This is a major feat, and certainly one of much focus. In addition to our discussions in class and readings from the textbook, consider the following information provided by UNICEF: http://www.unicef.org/mdg/childmortality.html (a) According to statistics provided by UNICEF, how many children under the age of five die each day? What are the primary six causes of under five child death? (b) How has UNICEF impacted child vaccination programs?
