Reading Guide Below you will find a list of what are known as  literary elements  – things that are in every piece of literature  that you can and will use to understand and interpret the underlying meaning of the texts we will read during this unit.  As you read and annotate the stories, especially the one you would like to write on, you should attempt to answer these  questions.  Your ability to answer these questions will help you move on to interpreting the social and/or human issues  and/or messages that each of the stories deal with, address, and explore.  For now, you would do well to have these  questions firmly in your mind as you read each page of a text and, using the margins of the text, a separate piece of  paper, and/or the back of the pages themselves, keep track of  WHAT  literary elements are at work,  HOW  they are
