Learnings Challenges of sustainability differ across borders Selling sustainable products like CFL was more difficult in China as compared to US because Chinese are highly price sensitive and prefer only those products which offer absolute lowest price. Also, firms in China were unable to meet requirements set by the global sustainability movement because they lacked government-provided infrastructure. Sustainability, always does not lead to high costs There is a notion that sustainability will lead to high costs. However, this is not true. For example, the lighting of warehouse areas was supplemented with day lighting and T5 energy saving bulbs resulted in energy savings of 20-30%. Air conditioning and heat recycling systems reduced the waste levels. All this lowered the cost of energy consumed.
