Because of the iconic (likeness) nature of visual images, much of the process of attracting attention is modeled on elements of real0world interpersonal interactions i. The eyes represent the person, when someone looks directly into your eyes, it’s hard to look away ii. We want to attract attention in what we want to convey, we’re trying to connect that attention iii. There should be a connection between the product and method of attention getting 1. Ex. bad ad: female in bikini with tatoo on stomach with the company logo of a computer chip b. Different methods: direct eye gaze, rear view, violate reality, surrealism, visual metaphor, etc. c. Direct eye gaze i. It’s compelling for us to look back even though it’s just an image, we want to look back because it is a representation of the real- world 1.
